Eccleshall Biomass generates power using renewable biomass fuels. Using biomass reduces reliance on fossil fuels which in turn helps lower carbon emissions. The plant requires approximately 25,000 tonnes of biomass per year sourced locally from within 25 miles of Eccleshall. Energy Crop
One of the fuels, the energy crop, Miscanthus, is grown locally offering diversification opportunities and long term fuel supply contracts for up to 60 farms. BiEcc Ltd has already been established by local farmers to coordinate fuel supply and was the first growers group to be established within the UK.

Miscanthus is a non-invasive, sterile, perennial grass. It will be grown and harvested on local farms within a 25 mile radius of the Eccleshall Biomass Plant. The crop is harvested annually in early spring using conventional farm equipment. It is then supplied throughout the year to the power plant.
Increased habitat diversity will be found in areas where energy crops are grown benefiting local wildlife.
Wood Chip
The wood fuel used by Eccleshall Biomass is clean wood chip principally sourced from forestry and arboricultural arisings from within 25 miles of the power plant.
More information about biomass fuel can be found on the Biomass Energy Centre web site.
